Presentation of Trophies

This season, after much thought and 30 years in their roles, Melvin and Therese have decided to 'hang up' their committee hats as Chairman and Tournament Secretary. This could possibly mean that this could be the last time the Individual Tournament will run.
It was therefore felt it was only right to to ask someone to present both the trophies and the special presentation to Melvin and Therese this evening who has always unfailingly supported us with both the tournament and the league. - Nicola Hutchins, please step forward.
"Nicola has been an incredible help over the years of organinsing this tournament, even when we dared take a holiday at Easter!" Her name appears on every trophy (except the Men's of course) and looking back, the first time she won a trophy was in 1986, which at that time was the U23's Mixed Doubles. (See the Past Winners Mixed Doubles page, Nicola Kaye at that time)
"Nicola, we couldn't have done it without you - Thank you"

Special Presentation

Following the Trophy presentation a special presentation was made to Melvin and Therese. Our League President, Ian Marsden made the following  very heartfelt speech.

Ladies and Gentlemen, fellow badminton players,

Not wishing to detract from the excellent games played tonight and the trophies won, we now come to a very special part of the evening.

Melvin and Therese Hutton have served this League with great enthusiasm and dedication for over 30 years, Melvin as Chairman and Therese as Compition Secretary. They have now decided to tender their resignation as from the AGM on the 10th May, and so it is tonight that we honour their hard work and dedication by making a special presentation.

This presentation would bot have been possible without the generosity of the members of the existing clubs, and I want to say a big thank you to everybody who donated. When I contacted the Club Secretaries I had only an idea of what we might achieve, but it suppassed my wildest dreams topping £500 (in fact £580).

However, although I started this collection, I could not have brought it to a satisfactory conclusion without the inside help of Nicola Hutchins, who assisted me in the beginning and at the end by suggesting a suitable gift. This she arranged and ordered and we have it here tonight, and with the remaining money we have bought National Garden vouchers to the value of £200.

So finally, my thanks to eveybody, and on behalf of you all, I would like to present Melvin and Therese with this gift expressing our heartfelt thanks.
Melvin & Therese with the Owl, the flowers, and you can just see the cactus on the left. Anyone got any ideas how to get them in the hand luggage on the plane to Spain!
Nicola being presented by Therese with a lovely bunch of flowers and those trophies going back to the Under 23 Tournaments in 1986.
