The Braintree District Badminton League was formed in 1955 and consisted of 5 badminton clubs, Finchingfield, Wethersfield, Bocking, Pioneers and Lake & Elliot,  playing mixed doubles in 2 divisions. The following season Felsted joined to take the number of clubs to 6.

We still have the original end of season and tournament reports for those first two years.

The 1987/88 season saw the league at it's most strongest with 2 Ladies, 5 Mens and 8 Mixed leagues, all playing the normal 6's format. The number of clubs taking part this season was 34.

Due to a drop in club membership numbers, the doubles 4's format was introduced for the Ladies in 1992/93, followed by the Mens and Mixed 4's in 1994/95. The 4's format has proved very successful in helping to maintain clubs status in the league.

At the beginning of the 2006/07 season, the new league scoring system was adopted and after a rather interesting start, has proved very successful and resulted in less matches running out of time at the end of the evening.

Currently, the league consists of 13 badminton clubs playing in 9 leagues covering Ladies, Mens and Mixed Doubles in both 6's and 4's formats.
